You want to grow as an artist (or get more creative).

 But those boundaries!

That feeling of being stuck,
the fear of mistakes and failure.

It's real!

And it's crippling your confidence. (I know, I've been there too.)

But I have good news for you.

No more storing those paints & paintbrushes, canvases, and other tools for 'maybe one day'.

It's time to let go of the fear of creating.

And start an art journal!

Art journaling brings with it the space to explore your creativity without fear, and express yourself in ANY artistic way YOU desire.

To become a MORE CONFIDENT you!

The Greenhouse way of art journaling

The essence of art journaling is to showcase your art.
But if you're finding yourself creatively stuck, then you may not have any art you want to showcase.

Enter the Greenhouse approach.

STEP 1

Journal with a photo

Begin by art journaling with a favourite photo (like I did with my family in shadows on the beach photo above).

STEP 2

Journal with doodle art

Use my FREE Doodle Challenge to create doodle art you're proud of. Learn over 30 doodles, and create 3 different doodle masterpieces. Then use 1 of those in your journaling (like I did in the image above).

You can find that doodle challenge here.

STEP 3

Journal with your own art.

With all the creative inspiration from the doodling and journaling in steps 1 & 2, watch your confidence soar. You'll soon be creating your own art and going on to journal with that. Hooray!

SIDENOTE: If your creativity is already firing, feel free to skip step 1 & 2 .

How Art Journaling Can Help

Be free in your artistic expression.

 There are no boundaries here.

YOUR ART JOURNAL WILL NOT JUDGE.

Use whatever medium or tool you wan to create anything you want. How about finger painting ? Or doodling your favourite words? What about collaging with beautiful paper?

Bring back those days of carefree creative fun you had as a child/teen!

Be more present

While art journaling is very convenient for the busy, it also helps you to STOP & SMELL THE ROSES (so to speak).

You can take your journal anywhere, and access it at any time.

Only have an hour for yourself? Grab your art journal and make something real quick, and still, have that satisfaction of being creative in your day.

Have a break at work? Use your art journal to write your thoughts or doodle - anything that will make you feel you did something creative that day.

Be more carefree.

Have a sudden thought or creative idea while out and about? Just scribble something it in your journal, write a part of a poem or a quote and when next you have more time, you can elaborate on it, and decorate it.

NO OVERTHINKING
No overwhelm.

Art journaling is light and carefree. A  fulfilling and productive creative process.

Be more honest with your thoughts and words.

Your art journal becomes your outlet for art and FOR YOUR EMOTIONS.

Getting to know inner-self better happens in 2 ways with art journaling:

Firstly, your journal is only yours. Nobody has to see it. Ever. So it can become a place in which to pour your thoughts and words.

Secondly, art journaling is also all about the process. The time you spend creating, the calm you bring into your life, the way you deal with what’s deep inside you while creating in it - that's what's most important, NOT the result!

Be a place for mistakes.

Practice all you want, make mistakes, ruin a page.

It doesn't matter in your art journal. In fact, mistakes are where the learning happens!

Where you grow.

So use your art journal as your PLACE TO EXPERIMENT:
Want to get better at using watercolours?
Feel like tearing paper today and improving your collage skills?
How about using those pages to discover a new doodle habit?

The story changes when you have an art journal. So explore it freely.

You might not like all of your art journal pages, but you learn as you go. Don't destroy those pages you don’t like, let them live, to always remind yourself that you have grown from them. Trust me, it is a wonderful thing to come back to some of those old pages and see how much you have learned and grown over time.

Note on Journaling Materials Used in Videos

I include a list of materials (with clickable links) with each layout as a reference.

However, for your art journaling I encourage you to use what materials you have available to you.

The design tips I give you in the videos are there to guide you, so that you may substitute your materials accordingly.

For example, for colour I recommend choosing paper that matches the dominant colour in your artwork. (If blue is the primary colour in my art work, I would design with blue paper. I suggest identifying the leading colour in your own work and using that as your guide.)
