How your creative spirit can be both a blessing AND a curse, and how to avoid the latter.

Being creative can be both a blessing and a curse,
when I let it.
On one hand…
When those fleeting moments of inspiration swoop in,
My creativity is the one thing that helps me hold onto them.
Treasure them.
So that I may dive deeper.
Grasp further.
And learn how to express myself more fully.
My creativity gives me clarity
on who it is I am supposed to be in this world.
Each mark on the page an act of devotion.
Every new insight making me more vulnerable.
But still, my courage to keep on venturing grows,
Exploring that which has been hidden for so long.

On the other hand …
My creativity brings pressure!
When I let this fast-paced, highly competitive world of today speak too loudly.
Then the SHOULD'S come out to play:
I should be doing more.
I should be coming up with more.
I should BE more!
More
More
MORE!

No!
Instead of dwelling on the fear of overwhelm, and burnout.
I choose to set boundaries and prioritise self-care.
I dedicate a little time everyday for my creative pursuits.
After walking Coco, my dog.
And having had breakfast.
A brief, uninhibited space of 15 minutes.
That's all it takes.
Where I can approach my creativity with a sense of curiosity and play.
It's the process of exploration and experimentation that is to be celebrated here.
No agenda.
No destination that needs to be reached.
Merely new perspectives to be gleaned.
Or not.
No pressure!
At the very least I know, with every piece I create, I am grateful for the value and enjoyment they bring, both to me and to the others who love my work.
That's the true blessing.
When I let it.
Happy creating!
💚 L
